About Awate Village (Ghana, West Africa): A Hidden Gem Facing Big Challenges
Awate is a secluded, remote village in Ghana, West Africa, nestled by the water and surrounded by greenery. With limited transport links to larger towns, the village remains largely untouched by modern infrastructure, making daily travel a challenge. The people of Awate are warm, welcoming, and deeply connected to their traditions, relying on small-scale farming and fishing to sustain their livelihoods. Life in the village moves at a peaceful, steady rhythm, with a strong sense of community where neighbours support one another. However, access to essential services like clean water, healthcare, and education remains a struggle, making initiatives like this campaign vital for the village’s growth and well-being.
Every Child Deserves Clean Water
Water is life, but for the students of Awate Village, access to clean water is a daily struggle. The local school’s water system is broken, making it difficult to maintain hygiene, provide drinking water, and grow food for school meals. Without a reliable water source, students’ health and learning are at risk.
The Impact of Clean Water
Fixing the water system will ensure that students can stay healthy, focus on their studies, and have access to fresh water every day. A sustainable water supply will also allow the school to grow food for meals, improving nutrition and overall well-being.
Bringing Running Water to the Local School
To restore water access, we will:
Drill a borehole deep into the ground within walking distance from the school
Install a water pump to bring groundwater up to the surface
Build a pipe to transport water from the pump directly to the school grounds
How Will the Funds Be Used? We are seeking to raise £1500 to get the project started. The funds will be allocated as follows, based on local estimates for materials and labour:
£600 for water pump: including quality pump, cable, water holes, and workmanship.
£350 for plumbing work: including PVC pipe, other necessary materials, and workmanship.
£500 for mason work: including cement, sand, stone, and workmanship.
£50 for contingency, including international bank transfer fees.
